Global Research Council (GRC) provides a forum for regular meetings of the Heads of Research Councils and is dedicated to fostering multilateral research cooperation in all countries of the world to discuss common policy items essential for the progress of science and technology.
Each year, GRC coordinates five Regional Meetings around the world - in Africa, the Americas, Asia- Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East/North Africa regions - to prepare the Annual GRC Meeting that in 2016 will be held in New Delhi.
This year, 2015, the Governing Board of the GRC selected CNR of Italy and RFBR of Russia to host the European Regional Meeting. This meeting offers the opportunity for policy discussion at regional strategic level and aims to bring all European views into the 2016 Global Research Council Summit.
National Research Council of Italy (CNR) is a public research organization. Its duty is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in main areas of knowledge growth and in applications for scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country. CNR is distributed all over Italy through a network of Institutes grouped in seven Departments. Its scope is promoting a wide diffusion of competences and facilitating contacts and cooperation with firms and organizations at international level. CNR is a founding member of Science Europe. CNR International Relations has made a huge investment in pursuing global, transnational as well as European relations for research and innovation activities.
Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) is a Federal state establishment with a mission to promote research activities in Russia. It takes a significant place in the Russian science system providing direct financial support in the form of grants to the scientists regardless where they are employed. To this aim, RFBR realizes competitive funding mechanism. RFBR has developed intensive partnership with the research funding agencies from other countries with a good number of them from Europe where it cooperates on bilateral as well as multilateral basis. It actively participates in the Global Research Council since the establishment of the GRC in 2012.
